What Treasure Can You Find With a Metal Detector?

Many treasures can be found with metal detectors, but coins, gold rings, and raw gold nuggets are among the best finds. Did you know that about 95% or more of the gold nuggets within the US have yet to be discovered? And most of these nuggets can be easily detected by metal detectors!

While most people simply search for precious metal objects (IE: gold rings, gold coins, and raw gold nuggets), there are plenty of other items to be found using metal detectors, many of which have at least some sort of value.

Most of the “less valuable” items commonly found by metal detectors include things such as: belt buckles, common coins, metal pocket knives, iron bars, and more. This may not seem like much, but keep in mind that a good pocket knife can easily be worth anywhere from about $15 to $100 or more (and they can easily be sold on eBay).

It is also possible to find the more rare treasures, such as antiques, historical items, and even “semi precious” Men’s rings (these can actually be worth a lot of money). Basically the sky is the limit to what you can find with a metal detector. Just don’t be discouraged if you have to weed through a good amount of junk before you find something good. It will be well worth your efforts when you DO happen to find that valuable buried treasure that you have been searching for!

What is the Best Metal Detector for Finding Gold Nuggets?

Even though many, MANY gold nuggets have already been discovered (just below the surface of the ground), geologists state that roughly 97% of the gold within the US has yet to be found. So why does this matter? Because almost ALL of this undiscovered gold is in the form of nuggets, most of which can easily be detected by gold metal detectors. So now the only question is this: what gold detectors are the best for finding gold nuggets?

Before you start shopping around for gold metal detectors, keep in mind that there are 3 types, which are used for finding the following things: gold rings, gold coins, and gold nuggets. Obviously you will want to buy a metal detector that is made specifically for finding gold nuggets.

The reason for this is because of the fact that gold detectors are “pulse induction” metal detectors, and they use lower frequencies, which is great for finding gold nuggets that are buried deep within the ground (beyond the reach of most normal metal detectors).

There are 2 specific metal detectors that are often considered to be the best, among those who search for gold nuggets. These are the Treasure Hunter XJ9-3050, and the Minelab GPX-4500. However, the Minelab is not real good at weeding out the junk items, so between the 2, it is safe to say that the Treasure Hunter XJ9-3050 metal detector is the better gold detector. Perhaps this is due to the fact that it is a dual frequency detector.

What is the Best Metal Detector?

It seems that many people are asking the same question about metal detectors, which is: “what is the best metal detector”. What most people don’t realize is that finding the “best” metal detector is really just a matter of personal preference.

Also, another thing to take into consideration when trying to decide which metal detectors are the best for you, is what you will actually be using it for (for example, finding coins on the beach). Last but definitely not least, you will want to find a metal detector that you are comfortable with; this will make it easier to use it proficiently. This is simply a matter of personal preference; for example, you may find that Whites metal detectors are more comfortable than Garrett metal detectors.

For many people, being “comfortable” with a metal detector is simply a matter of being comfortable while holding it. So be sure to physically hold (and pretend to use) a few different brands of metal detectors before buying one, and see how well balanced it is, how heavy it feels, and how comfortable you are holding it.

Another important factor is how good the metal detector is at detecting metal objects, and how far it can detect an object in the ground, and so on. The good news is that the brand of a metal detector really doesn’t seem to affect performance very much, if at all, so with that being said, just find the one that feels the most comfortable (physically) for you.

As far as brands go, there are many, but here are the most popular brands of hand held metal detectors: Garrett, Minelab, Bounty Hunter, and Whites metal detectors. These 4 brands are considered to be some of highest quality metal detectors in the industry (especially the Garrett metal detectors). And again, keep in mind that the brand of the metal detectors, at least when it comes to those 4, doesn’t seem to make much difference when it comes to performance and durability. Just go with the one that feels right for you!
